Do You Need a Course Before Using Zenler? What You Actually Need

One of the first questions people ask when they discover Zenler is surprisingly simple:

“Do I need to have a course before I can use Zenler?”

The short answer is no.

You do not need to have a finished online course sitting on your computer before you can start using Zenler.

In fact, depending on your business, you may not need a course at all.

Zenler can be used for much more than hosting an online course. The platform brings together tools for websites, landing pages, email marketing, funnels, automation, payments, memberships, communities, coaching, and other online business functions.

That can be incredibly useful.

It can also make the platform feel much more complicated than it needs to be when you are just getting started.

So if you have been thinking about using Zenler but keep wondering whether you need to create a complete course first, let’s clear that up.

Here is what you actually need before using Zenler and what you can leave until later.

You Do Not Need a Finished Course

Let’s start with the biggest misconception.

You do not need a completed online course to start using Zenler.

A course is one possible use for the platform, but it is not a requirement for getting started.

For example, you might be:

  • A coach who works with clients one-on-one

  • A consultant selling services

  • A creator building an audience

  • A business owner collecting leads

  • A trainer planning a future course

  • Someone selling workshops or live sessions

  • A membership creator

  • Someone building an email list

  • A digital product creator

  • An entrepreneur who simply wants a landing page and automated email system

In these situations, you can use relevant parts of Zenler without having a completed course ready to go.

This is important because many beginners make the process backwards.

They think:

“First I need to create a course. Then I can set up Zenler.”

But in many cases, a better approach is:

“First I need to decide what I want Zenler to help me do.”

Once you know that, you can choose the features you actually need.

Do You Need a Course Before Using Zenler What You Actually Need

So What Do You Actually Need?

Before setting up Zenler, you need something much simpler than a finished course.

You need a clear business goal.

For example:

“I want people to join my email list.”

Or:

“I want people to book a consultation.”

Or:

“I want to sell my coaching programme.”

Or:

“I want to eventually sell an online course.”

Or:

“I want to create a free resource that leads people toward my paid offer.”

That goal becomes the starting point for your Zenler setup.

Think of Zenler like a toolbox.

You do not buy a toolbox because you know you are going to use every tool inside it.

You buy it because you have a job to do.

The same principle applies here.

1. You Need Something to Offer

You do not necessarily need a course.

But you do need something you want people to do, receive, buy, or sign up for.

That could be:

A service

For example:

  • Coaching

  • Consulting

  • Design

  • Training

  • Freelancing

  • Strategy sessions

A digital product

For example:

  • Ebook

  • Template

  • Workbook

  • Guide

  • Downloadable resource

A live experience

For example:

  • Workshop

  • Webinar

  • Group coaching session

  • Training session

A course

Of course, an online course is one of the most obvious things you can build with Zenler.

But it is only one option.

A membership

You might want to create a recurring membership where people receive ongoing content, resources, community access, or support.

The important thing is not the format.

The important thing is knowing what you are offering.

If you have no idea what you want people to buy or sign up for, setting up dozens of Zenler pages will not solve that problem.

The strategy comes first.

The technology comes second.

2. You Need to Know Who You Are Helping

You do not need a 40-page customer avatar document.

You simply need to understand who your offer is for.

Ask yourself:

Who is this for?

What problem are they trying to solve?

What are they hoping to achieve?

Why would they choose my offer?

For example, “I help people with business” is very broad.

Compare that with:

“I help small business owners set up simple email marketing systems without spending weeks trying to figure out the technology.”

The second statement gives you much more direction.

It helps you decide what your landing page should say.

It helps you decide what your freebie should be.

It helps you decide what emails to send.

And eventually, it helps you decide which Zenler features you actually need.

3. You Need a Clear Customer Journey

This is probably the most important thing to figure out before you start building.

Ask:

What happens when someone discovers me?

Maybe they find you through Instagram.

Then what?

Perhaps they download your free guide.

Then what?

They receive a welcome email.

Then what?

You introduce your paid offer.

Then what?

They purchase.

Then what?

They receive access and onboarding information.

That is your customer journey.

It might look something like this:

Social media

Landing page

Freebie

Email sequence

Offer

Checkout

Delivery

The exact journey will depend on your business.

But having a basic picture of it makes your Zenler setup dramatically easier.

Without it, you can end up creating pages and automations without knowing what they are actually supposed to accomplish.

4. You Need Your Basic Content

You do not need every piece of content finished before setting up Zenler.

But you should have the essentials ready.

Depending on what you are building, this might include:

  • Your business name

  • Your offer name

  • A description of your offer

  • Your main headline

  • Your call to action

  • Your basic brand information

  • Your welcome email

  • Your sales or offer information

  • Your lead magnet, if you are using one

If you are creating a course, you will eventually need the course content too.

But you do not necessarily need to have every lesson recorded before you start setting up the surrounding system.

You can build the structure while your content is being developed.

This is especially helpful if you are still creating your first course.

5. You Need an Email Strategy

If you are using Zenler to build an audience or sell an offer, your email system is an important part of the setup.

You do not need a complicated email marketing strategy.

Start with the basics.

For example:

Someone joins your list

They receive a welcome email

They receive useful content

They learn about your offer

They receive an invitation to take the next step

That might be all you need initially.

As your business grows, you can introduce more advanced segmentation and automation.

But starting with a simple system makes it much easier to understand what is happening behind the scenes.

Do You Need an Email List Before Using Zenler?

No.

You can start building your list using Zenler.

This is one of the reasons it can be useful for someone who is still setting up their online business.

For example, you might create a simple landing page offering a free resource.

Someone enters their email address.

They are added to your audience.

Your automated welcome sequence begins.

You can then continue nurturing that relationship through email.

So you do not need to arrive at Zenler with thousands of subscribers.

You can build your list as part of your setup.

In fact, if you are starting from zero, setting up your list-building system early can save you from having to rebuild your entire customer journey later.

Do You Need a Website Before Using Zenler?

Again, no.

You do not have to have a completely finished website before you begin.

Depending on what you are building, you may be able to use Zenler’s website and landing-page functionality as part of your setup.

This can be particularly useful if you are starting from scratch.

Instead of thinking:

“I need a website, then an email platform, then a course platform, then a funnel.”

You can look at your requirements first and decide which parts of your online business you want Zenler to handle.

You can always expand your website and online presence later.

Do You Need to Know How to Code?

No.

This is another concern I hear from people who are new to platforms like Zenler.

They see words such as:

  • Funnels

  • Automations

  • Integrations

  • Domains

  • DNS

  • Forms

  • Checkout

  • Triggers

and immediately assume they need technical knowledge.

You do not need to be a developer to set up a Zenler system.

However, there is an important distinction.

You do not need coding skills.

But you may still need to understand how the different pieces connect.

That is where beginners often get stuck.

The challenge is not necessarily writing code.

It is understanding things like:

“When someone submits this form, which list are they added to?”

“Which email should they receive?”

“What happens if they purchase?”

“Should they continue receiving the nurture sequence?”

“When should they receive access to the course?”

Those are system questions rather than coding questions.

What If You Are Planning to Create a Course Later?

This is actually a very common situation.

You may know that you want to create a course eventually, but you are not ready to build the entire thing today.

You can still start setting up your business.

For example, you might begin with:

Step 1: Create your landing page.

Step 2: Start collecting subscribers.

Step 3: Create your welcome sequence.

Step 4: Nurture your audience.

Step 5: Develop your course.

Step 6: Create the course inside Zenler.

Step 7: Connect the course to your existing customer journey.

This approach means you are not waiting months to start building an audience just because your course is not finished.

Your audience and your product can develop alongside each other.

What You Should Have Before Creating a Course in Zenler

If you are planning to use Zenler specifically for an online course, then your preparation will be a little different.

Before building the course itself, I recommend having:

A clear course topic

What are you teaching?

A defined student

Who is the course for?

A clear transformation

What should someone be able to do, understand, or achieve after completing it?

A rough curriculum

You do not need every lesson finished, but you should know the major sections you want to teach.

Your course format

Will you use:

  • Video?

  • Audio?

  • PDFs?

  • Worksheets?

  • Quizzes?

  • Live sessions?

  • A combination?

Your pricing model

Will people pay once?

Will there be different pricing options?

Will you offer a payment plan?

These decisions make the technical setup much easier because you know what you are actually building.

What You Do NOT Need Before Starting Zenler

Let’s make this even simpler.

You do not need:

❌ A finished 12-week course

❌ Thousands of email subscribers

❌ A huge social media following

❌ A perfect website

❌ A complicated funnel

❌ Twenty automated emails

❌ A professional developer

❌ Every page designed

❌ Every Zenler feature figured out

❌ A massive marketing strategy

You need clarity about what you are trying to build.

Everything else can be developed step by step.

The Biggest Mistake Beginners Make

The biggest mistake is not starting without a course.

It is trying to build everything at once.

Someone opens Zenler and sees all the available tools.

They think:

“I need a website.”

“I need a funnel.”

“I need a lead magnet.”

“I need five automations.”

“I need a membership.”

“I need a community.”

“I need three courses.”

“I need a webinar.”

Suddenly, the simple business they wanted to build has turned into a giant technical project.

This is where many beginners get stuck.

Instead, ask one question:

What is the next step my customer needs to take?

Build that.

Then ask:

What happens after that?

Build that.

Continue until the complete customer journey works.

A Simple Example

Imagine you are a coach who wants to sell a six-week coaching programme.

You do not need an online course.

Your Zenler setup could be as simple as:

Instagram

Free guide

Landing page

Email welcome sequence

Coaching programme

Application or checkout

Welcome email

Client onboarding

That’s it.

You are using Zenler to support your business without creating a single traditional online course.

Now imagine that six months later you decide to turn your coaching framework into a self-paced course.

You can add the course.

Your existing audience and email system can become part of the new customer journey.

The platform grows with the business instead of forcing you to build everything before you begin.

Think About Zenler as the System, Not the Product

This is perhaps the easiest way to understand it.

Your course, coaching programme, workshop, membership, or digital product is the offer.

Zenler is the system that can help you deliver and sell that offer.

The two are not the same thing.

You should not create a course simply because you think you need one to justify using Zenler.

Instead, decide what your business needs first.

Then use the relevant Zenler tools to support it.

That mindset makes the platform much less intimidating.

Your Zenler Beginner Checklist

Before you start setting everything up, answer these questions:

☐ What am I selling or offering?

☐ Who is it for?

☐ What problem does it solve?

☐ What action do I want people to take?

☐ How will people discover me?

☐ Do I need a freebie?

☐ Do I need an email sequence?

☐ What happens after someone signs up?

☐ What happens after someone purchases?

☐ What does the customer receive?

Once you can answer those questions, you have enough information to begin planning your Zenler setup.

You can add the more advanced pieces later.

So, Do You Need a Course Before Using Zenler?

No.

You need a reason to use Zenler, not necessarily a course.

If your business involves selling an online course, then Zenler can provide the infrastructure you need to create, sell, and deliver it.

But if you are a coach, consultant, service provider, creator, educator, or digital product seller, you may be able to use many of Zenler’s tools without creating a course at all.

And if you are planning a course but it is not ready yet, you can start building the audience, landing pages, email system, and customer journey while you develop the course itself.

The best place to start is not with the question:

“Which Zenler feature should I use?”

Start with:

“What do I want my customer to do?”

Once you know that, the technical setup becomes much easier to plan.
