Set Boundaries,

How do you feel when a client says to you “I will Tip you for the Extra Time” while is not willing to pay instead for that extra time?

Well, you may be trying to offer your best service, and offer extra work for free just to show how much you care, because this is how you are, you can`t help it. Then the clients ask for more and delay the order for days. You are clear from the beginning but it seems no one is paying attention to your terms of services and kindness. What do you do?

I set boundaries. This can happen with a new client who does not know you and does not know how you work and how committed you are.

Personal Experience:

Once I felt I was not heard by a client, I made sure to write multiple times the terms of my services(maybe he did not read those when ordering).

I understood that the client was not an easy one, he thought that could request multiple drafts by going forward and again back to the same, as many times as he wanted just because he did not know what he wanted.

And then he said, “I will tip you for the extra time”. This was like “what the F…” I explained that I do not need to be tipped for work that he should be paying. In the end, a tip is something that is not mandatory, a client tip a service provider because he is satisfied with the job.

Long story short, I explained that any extra work on the order should be first paid, and then I can work on it.  I also asked the client to be kind and to treat me how he wanted to be treated. I remind him that I am all about fair business relations.

So do not be afraid to set boundaries because this is what makes you a professional.

Take care of yourself and your job first then clients need to accept your terms of services if they want to collaborate, even after they are in the order process.

How did you treat a client that had a similar reaction? Let me know below.
